a giveaway - hooray!
The giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to Jess, the lucky winner!
I’m trying to be green. Really, I am.
But let me tell you, I have had some bad experiences with green cleaning products, and I really can’t justify spending more money for something that doesn’t work half as well as the bad stuff. For example, I used a green dishwashing detergent that required me to pretty much WASH my dishes before I loaded them into the dishwasher and THEN left a strange film, causing me to wash them again by hand. How is that good for the environment, I ask you??
And, I confess, I also had a bad experience with a green laundry detergent. I have a toddler. I am a slob. Detergent needs to work hard here in my house or not bother to show up at all.
And yet, I really want to be green. The more I read about how chemicals are seeping into our every pore, the more I want to protect Hurricane Eva from these things whenever possible. So I tried another green detergent. And this one is kookier than all the others combined.
Soap nutsare exactly what you think of when you hear “soap nuts.” They are nuts you throw in your washing machine to clean your clothes. And I have to say, I’m pretty impressed. (although not initially, because I accidentally washed a really dirty load on “delicate.” That didn’t work so well.) I do have to treat pretty much every single stain on the clothes and you do have to wash them in hot or warm water (although the website gives instructions on how to make a solution to use on cold washes), but so far, they’ve gotten everything pretty darn clean without any strange scent.
So, here’s my giveaway: a sample of Soap Nuts just for you! Just go to the Soap Nuts website and then come back and leave me a comment listing what you think your favorite scent would be (and your email, por favor). And, of course, if you link to my blog or subscribe, I’ll give you extra entries. (I have to limit this to U.S. residents only for now).
later: the giveaway will be open until Wednesday, November 19

I think I’d rather try them without scent.
Because I’m allergic to fragrance, I would like to try them without scent.
No scent for me - I have dermatitis, so the milder the better.
If I had to pick a scent, I’d go with Lemon but normally I prefer my laundry to be unscented. Thanks for the great contest!
Energy Essential! We need all that we can get.
I would pick either lavender (for my linens) or unscented (for everything else).
